Residential Trash Disposal Options

Trash should be placed in clear, transparent bags (not brown, black, or dark green) or in a container with a lid. You have several trash disposal options. You may bring your waste to one of Oswego County's five transfer stations, using a residential sticker or punch card that can be purchased at the transfer stations. You may also have trash picked up at your home by a contracted waste hauler. Oswego County has mandatory recycling. Click here for recycling instructions.
Residential Sticker
- Proof of Oswego County residency, vehicle, and vehicle registration are required at time of purchase
- Cost $125 per year; $62.50 on or after July 1
- Expires December 31st of the current year
- Costs $5 per additional (for other vehicle) or replacement stickers
- Includes household trash and bulk items (household furnishings)
- Does not include construction & demolition (C&D) debris (wood, sheetrock, shingles, carpets, etc.)
- Does not include tires
- Does not include items with refrigerants, such as: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, compressors, etc.
- Valid for only one Oswego County household address (multiple household hauling is prohibited using the sticker)
- Sticker is placed on vehicle registered to purchaser's household address only
Residential Punch Card
- Proof of Oswego County residency is required at time of purchase
- Costs $30
- Contains 20 holes
- One hole is equal to a 13 gallon bag (includes sizes less than 13 gallon)
- Bulk items (household furnishings) are charged according to punch card schedule used by attendant
- Refrigerated items and tires are not covered by a Punch Card
Weighing In and Out on the Scales
Construction and demolition and larger loads of waste (recyclables must be separated) may be weighed in and out on the scales. The weighed tipping fee is $80 per ton and $52 per ton at the Bristol Hill Landfill. There is a minimum charge of $10 when weighing items on the scales. Hannibal Transfer Station is not equipped with scales.
Other Residential Fees
- Tires: $80 per ton
- Appliances with CFC refrigerant: $15 each
- Brush and tree waste: $20 per ton. Pick-up truck or larger.
- Compostable material: $20 per ton. Pick-up truck or larger.
- Fish Waste: Accepted at Bristol Hill Landfill at $52 per ton and the Pulaski Transfer Station at $80 per ton.
- Vehicle loading fees to receive compost: 2 to 4 wheel vehicle, $5; 6 wheel vehicle, $10; 10 wheel vehicle, $15.
- DMV weight certification: $10
Payment Options

- Checks made payable to Oswego County Deptartment of Solid Waste
- There is a $20 fee for all returned (bounced) checks. Permits will be locked until the returned check clears and $20 fee is paid.
Hiring a Private Hauler
- Some local governments contract waste removal services for their residents. Before you contract with a waste hauler, contact your local town, village or city government to see if this is the case in your area.
- You may contract with a private waste hauler for disposal service of trash and recyclables. (see names and phone numbers of local haulers in yellow pages of telephone directories)
- Keep in mind that haulers will not pick up items such as: household batteries, used motor oil, furniture, refrigerated, appliances or electronic items (these can be taken to a transfer station)
