Emergency Management Office Announces NIMS Training Sessions

FULTON - The Oswego County Emergency Management Office will hold two training sessions for new elected officials and emergency workers who need to comply with the new federal National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.

The training sessions include:

  • Thursday, Feb. 25, 6 - 9 p.m. at the Joint Information Center, 10 Airport Road, Volney (next to the Oswego County Airport).

  • Thursday, March 18, 6 - 9 p.m. at the Snow Memorial Building, 4971 Jefferson St. (Route 11), Pulaski.

All volunteers and workers responding to emergency situations must take ICS 100, Introduction to Incident Command System, and FEMA IS-700, NIMS: An Introduction, in order for their agency to receive federal grant funds.

Patricia Egan, Director of the Oswego County Emergency Management Office, said the regulations affect first responders and disaster workers at all levels of government and the private sector. She noted that individuals who should take this class include chief elected officials of municipalities, town or village clerks, highway superintendents, town or village board members who would have a role in emergency response, and school personnel including administrators who would be involved in an emergency response.

Pre-registration is required because class size is limited. To pre-register, call the Oswego County Emergency Management Office, weekdays, at 315-591-9150 at least a week before the course.
