OSWEGO COUNTY - The Oswego County Green Team, a volunteer group of citizens working to reduce littering in Oswego County, is encouraging citizens to take part in Earth Day activities during the month of April. Earth Day will be celebrated worldwide on Sunday, April 22.
Team members will pick up trash around Bullhead Point at Lake Neahtawanta starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28. The public is invited to participate.
Other clean-up projects include a Canal Clean Sweep event Saturday, April 21, starting at 9 a.m. at the Minetto Town Hall. Volunteers will break into groups and clean up the Riverview Park and garden areas along the river, and the Oswego River dugway south of the town park. On Earth Day, April 22, volunteers will meet at the entrance to Great Bear Springs Recreation Area on Route 57 at 9:30 a.m. The cleanup will include removal of shoreline litter. The main project will be to cut brush and limbs on an area adjacent to the tow path and the historic spring house. Other connecting trails can be inspected for missing trail markers and brush clearing. Gloves are recommended. Volunteers are encouraged to bring hand tools such as loppers and pruning saws.
