Healthy Living Workshop Series Helps Put 'Life' Back into Your Life

OSWEGO - The Oswego County Health Department will host a free workshop series for those living with chronic disease, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, and emphysema. The program begins Thursday, May 17 and continues for six consecutive Thursdays. Classes run from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will be held in the administrative conference room of the health department complex 70 Bunner St., Oswego.

Participants should enter through the main entrance on the west side of the building.

The Healthy Living Workshop Series utilizes the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program curriculum developed at Stanford University's Patient Education Research Center. It is designed for those living with chronic disease and their caregivers to learn coping skills that will aid in health management.

The classes help participants develop strategies to get relief from pain and fatigue, deal with difficult emotions, and improve communication with medical providers. They also provide connections to learn from others who have similar health issues. Participants in the evidence-based program have reported improved general health as well as fewer out-patient visits or hospitalization days.

The Healthy Living Workshop Series is free; however, space is limited. Call 315-349-3547 to register.
