OSWEGO COUNTY - The Oswego County Office for the Aging has partnered with the United Way of Greater Oswego County to host the second annual senior picnic Wednesday, June 26, at Breitbeck Park in the City of Oswego. The event is free of charge for any Oswego County resident age 60 and older.
Sara Sunday, director of the Oswego County Office for the Aging, said, "I'm happy we are able to bring this event back again this year. It was well received last year, even with the sweltering heat of late August!"
Last year's event was attended by more than 75 seniors from around the county. This year's attendance is expected to be near 100 seniors.
A picnic lunch of pulled pork on a Kaiser roll, coleslaw and fresh fruit cup will be served at noon. Before lunch, participants can enjoy a round of bunco or a leisurely mile walk around the newly re-opened Breitbeck Park Trail. After lunch, the Oswego County Sheriff's Office will give a presentation on "Scams - what to look for and how to avoid them." To close out the day, guests will be entertained by local music talent Deanna Hubbard.
"It is important to recognize our older residents of the county and this is one small way to give back," added Sunday.
The event is made possible by funding provided by area businesses, including St. Luke's Health Services, Pathfinder Bank, Wayne's Pharmacy, OCO Rural Health Network, Dufore's, Edward Jones Investments, Bosco and Gears, and Dynamic Solutions Car. Additionally, door prize donations have been provided by Oswego Sub Shop, Walmart, Oswego Cinema, Rudy's, Gino and Joe's, Man in the Moon Candies, Cakes Galore, The Press Box, and Ontario Orchards.
The picnic is free for seniors age 60 or older; guests under age 60 will be charged $6. Reservations are required. To reserve your space, call the Oswego County Office for the Aging at 315-349-3484 by Tuesday, June 18.
